This morning, I felt that this day would totally go to waste. The weather sucked (its still raining...), I woke up feeling gross, did chores that took forever, and went to start my actual day at around 3:30pm. I decided to hang-out at The Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo right after doing an errand in the nearby neighborhood. Surprisingly, I may have found my little cafe where I could just be alone, people watch, drink coffee and most importantly sketch out ideas for paintings and upcoming shows. The place is a crossbreed between a thrift shop book store and a cafe with a very industrial/old library ambiance to it. There are some tables and chairs ( share a seat, win a friend), two comfort rooms that are clean (very important) and if I remember it correctly free Wi-Fi (an added bonus!). I spent a good 3 hours there sketching and doodling... which makes me think that I indeed found my little nook in the city to hang-out in total peace and quiet and be creative.
I also think I may have found another place to get real good Indian food without going all the way to 1st ave. I forgot the name, but it's a hole in the wall place right next to the book store. I passed by it and thought that curry sounded really warm for such a wet day and decided to give it a try. The place is really narrow and tiny, and was full of Indian cab drivers eating (a sign that the place is good I think...). There was even a makeshift bulletin board where ads written on paper plates were tacked to a wooden post in one corner. Very charming indeed if you ask me. I walked out of the place excited with my discovery of the day while snacking on my chicken samosa. Maybe next week I'm going to eat lunch there.
P.S.
I know I should've been taking more pictures (I've taken none so far...) of things and places that interest me around the city. I missed snapshot opportunities the past three days. I promise to take photos starting tomorrow...
