I was talking to Nikki, who's in town for a residency stint at Cooper Union, and she was discussing her idea of displacement and routine for which her work is going to be based on. Basically it's how we all want change from our regular routine only to escape into a new one. This got me thinking.
Have my weekly explorations and search for new things in the city become a routine? And does this then fall into my loop of chores such as laundry and grocery shopping? What about the routes I take to get to work... Mondays and Thursdays I take the Q to Union Square and walk to 23rd and other days taking the Q and transferring to the 6 to get to 23rd and walking a couple blocks to my store?
I'm sure it's human nature to do this, changing routines I mean. Henry Darger worked his jobs during the day, had one huge meal at the diner and went home to work on his art every single day. With my quick attention span such focus and rhythm I could only hope for.

P.S.
I saw Jonathan Adler yesterday walking on Lafayette st. He saw me staring at him knowing I knew who he was. Eep.
P.P.S.
I'm now reading David Sedaris' book Me Talk Pretty One Day and the Darger book I got from last week. Finished Augusten Burroughs's Running with Scissors. Now I'm trying to decide if I should read Lovely Bones next or Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (For which I have a follow up book called Aspects of Alice). I'm trying to read because I feel my brain is loosing IQ points already.
