doughnut plant.

I often find myself in the most out of the way places to go and try something. But if Im really curious enough to drag myself out of my ever reliable Q train, I go. Since I like my doughnuts, last Saturday I was on the J train to Essex st. where I heard I would find the Doughnut Plant on Grand st.

(funny closing time = "until sold out")

The first time I've had a doughnut from there was when Mel (+Abe) and I ate at Dean & Deluca before heading off to church (a year ago). They were huge, crisp in the outside and soft and light inside.

I even remember the glaze on mine to have bits of strawberry.

Although someone gave me a tip to try the Tres Leches (doughnut with condensed milk oozing from the center) I decided on the Peanut Butter and Jelly doughnut with a cup of hot chai latte.

Very good. Theres something very home made about their doughnuts which I like. The doughnut is even filled with strawberry jelly that they themselves make in their kitchen.

I also happen to dig their interiors too.

Industrial lighting and some doughnut tiles the owner's dad made.

sigh.
