So it's only safe to assume that I would absolutely obsess about this film, called Beautiful Losers.
Particularly because it features, Geoff Mcfetridge, ang super idol ko.
I first chanced upon his work in I.D. magazine back in freshman year college, featuring his now famous "I'm rocking on your dime" bear (MOCA has included this into their permanent collection). Since then I have sort of been following his work. The humor and wit and the extreme simplicity of his work is amazing. I like how he communicates with an image rendered in a single color. So simple it works.
In 2004, I was in HK and saw this...

He teamed up with Nike and came up with his own Vandal Supreme. He talks about it here.
It's not just a shoe. The thin layer of what seems to be seersucker material is meant to be peeled/scratched/torn to reveal a layer of graphics on vinyl.
Like so.

Theres even a video for it!
I thought about it, but ended up not buying a pair. Stupid.
Just last year I chanced upon a pair on ebay. I tried to bid on it but lost. Out of disappointment I headed out to all stores in the city that carried anything that had his name on it. Thank you google for making my life easier. I went out to Kid Robot and bought this book...

It was the last copy. Also enough to keep me quiet for a bit. The book is a survey of all his projects from both Sophia Coppola's Virgin Suicides and Milk Fed, Marc Jacobs to his personal art making and graphic design firm Champion Graphics.
Weeks later, I tried my luck again on ebay and found another pair... This time I won.
It's probably the most impractical thing I will ever own (as of yet...) as I bid on it ng naka-pikit. I also don't plan on wearing it, as it is a size 9. I got it kase I want it to sit in a plexiglass cube where I can admire it and maybe remind me of my impulsiveness. But who cares?
Anyway, going back to the film Beautiful Losers... I can't wait to watch it. It's actually an official entry to SXSW Film Festival so I have no idea how I can see it. There is how ever a book about the exhibition the film, I think, is based on.

It's $75 a pop for the hard bound copy. But I found a cheaper paperback version on amazon. Also did some research on ebay but no luck. O well, here we go again.
